The objective of this initiative is to speed up health research breakthroughs. To do this, we're asking one million people to share information about their health, habits, and what it's like where they live. By looking for patterns in this information, researchers may learn more about what affects people's health. Subsequently, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced the Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI) Cohort Program to create a national research cohort (named the All of Us Research Program) of one million or more U.S. participants. The California Precision Medicine Consortium (CAPMC) – a partnership among UC Irvine, UC San Diego Health, UC Davis, UC San Francisco and UC Health, along with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the San Diego Blood Bank, and the University of Southern California – is one of four regional groups chosen by the National Institutes of Health to take part in a national network of healthcare provider organizations building the Precision Medicine Initiative's research participant group, or cohort. The Precision Medicine Initiative's objective is to learn more about what affects people's health by taking into account factors like where you live, what you do, and your family health history. PMI will give new information and tools to researchers and their discoveries may lead to more personalized care and treatments.
